I am traveling to Naples, Italy, in early August for a couple of weeks holiday. For the 1st night I would like to say somewhere within an hour or so drive from Naples airport before I move further South towards Amalfi and then towards Sicily. Could anyone give me some suggestions for the 1st night, or few nights stay? (preferably outside of Naples as I am driving in a hire car and understand parking is hectic!).

Sorrento is about an hour south of Naples. It is also near the Amalfi coast. May not be a bad place to consider. Also, there may be a ferry to get to Capri (if you aslo have plans to visit the tiny island in the Bay of Naples).
Sicily is a place that I have visited often. Amalfi coast only once.
Probably it s better you sleep in Naples; all around Naples there are many bad and dangerous places. Or you can decide to go straight on to Amalfi: it is not so far and it is a really beautiful place; if you are looking for a good hotel, have a look on :
